The course (Sep 1 - 5) will be presented by Ben Hayes, Department of Primary Industries, Viktoria, Australia. It will focus on the design and analysis of whole genome association studies and the application of genomic selection in livestock populations. The topics the course will cover:
Day 1. Measurement of linkage disequilibrium and the extent of LD in livestock populations
Day 2. Analysis of whole genome association studies with dense SNP data
Day 3. Applying marker assisted selection in livestock populations
Day 4. Methods for genomic selection including BLUP and Bayesian approaches
Day 5. Application of genomic selection in livestock populations
A large component of the course will be hands-on analysis of data, using R scripts and genome analysis software.
Sep 6. Field trip to the Austrian Alps.
Sep 7. - 8. Workshop
The Workshop is intended to provide course participants with hands-on experience of people who have applied procedures of genomic selection to real data. Currently confirmed speakers are Andreas Legarra (mouse data), Mario Calus (simulation close to application), Bruce Tier and Johann Sölkner (Holstein Friesian data), Chris Stricker (simulation close to application), Dan Gianola (chicken data), David Habier (simulation close to application or chicken data; to be confirmed).
